Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about paintless dent repair, hail damage, insurance, and our services.

General / PDR Basics

What is paintless dent repair (PDR)?

Paintless dent repair is a technique that removes dents, dings, and creases from vehicle panels without sanding, filling, or repainting. Specialized tools are used to gently massage the metal back to its original shape from behind the panel, preserving your factory finish completely.

What types of dents can PDR fix?

PDR works on most dents where the paint surface is intact, including hail damage, door dings, minor creases, and parking lot dents. The key factors are the dent's depth relative to its diameter and whether the paint has cracked or chipped.

Is paintless dent repair a permanent fix?

Yes. Once a dent is removed with PDR, it does not come back. The metal is restored to its original contour, and because no filler or paint is used, the repair is as durable as the factory finish.

How long does a typical PDR repair take?

Most single-dent repairs are completed in one to three hours. Hail damage with multiple dents across several panels typically takes two to five business days, depending on severity.

Hail Damage

Does insurance cover hail damage repair?

Yes. Hail damage falls under comprehensive coverage, which is a no-fault claim. Filing a hail claim does not affect your driving record or liability rates. Most customers only pay their comprehensive deductible.

Will filing a hail claim raise my insurance rates?

Comprehensive claims like hail damage are classified as no-fault events. In most cases, a single hail claim will not raise your premiums. However, multiple comprehensive claims in a short period may affect your rates depending on your provider.

How long does hail damage repair take?

Repair time depends on severity. Light hail damage is often completed in one to two days. Moderate to heavy damage with dents across multiple panels typically takes three to seven business days from start to finish.

Should I file my hail claim right away or wait?

File your claim as soon as possible after the storm. Waiting increases the risk of additional damage, and your insurance company may require a separate deductible if your vehicle is hit again in a later storm.

Insurance & Cost

Do I have to use the repair shop my insurance recommends?

No. You have the legal right to choose any repair shop you trust. Insurance companies may suggest preferred shops, but you are not obligated to use them. PdrWorks works with all major insurance providers.

How much does paintless dent repair cost?

PDR is typically 50 to 70 percent less expensive than traditional body shop repairs. Exact cost depends on the number, size, and location of the dents. We provide free estimates so you know the cost upfront before any work begins.

Do you offer free estimates?

Yes. We provide free, no-obligation damage assessments at our Krugerville location. We will evaluate your vehicle, explain the repair process, and give you a clear cost estimate before any work starts.

ADAS Calibration

Why does my car need ADAS calibration after dent repair?

Advanced Driver Assistance Systems rely on precisely aligned cameras, radar, and sensors. Even minor repairs like dent removal or bumper work can shift sensor positioning by fractions of a degree, which is enough to affect braking, lane keeping, and collision detection accuracy.

What happens if I skip ADAS calibration?

Skipping calibration can result in false alerts, delayed responses, or complete failure of safety features like automatic emergency braking and lane departure warnings. Your vehicle may appear to function normally while its safety systems are operating outside manufacturer tolerances.

Is ADAS calibration required by law in Texas?

Texas does not currently mandate ADAS calibration by law. However, most vehicle manufacturers require it after any repair that could affect sensor alignment, and failing to recalibrate may void warranty coverage on those systems.
